In a recent workshop someone asked me if I was sure the Facebook app spelled Canvas and not Canva. So I checked. And both Canvas and Canva exist – and, both are great! The two tools can help you create rich content, i.e. visual content that will catch the attention of your audience on social media.

Facebook Canvas is a format designed for mobile. Facebook described it as “a full-screen ad experience built for bringing brands and products to life on mobile.” You can mix some visuals with copy to provide more in-depth information about your products or services. You can also add a video. So there is everything you need to get really creative and stand out! One of the features we like most is the customized call-to-action button. This makes the format not only engaging, but also efficient.

Chances are, you’ve seen a Facebook Canvas ad from a brand already. The feature is also available as a regular post (non-paid) for all Facebook Business Pages for almost a year now, and it has been performing well, retaining users’ attention for longer than regular pictures or videos. For this type of visual content, success relies heavily on creativity so make sure to create something unique!

 

 

Canva, on the other hand, is an app available on smartphone, tablets and desktop. It helps you create graphics for social media such as posts, covers and banners for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest.

If graphic design is not in your skill set and you can’t afford to outsource, this can be a great tool for you. Canva has templates that will help you get all the sizes right and their drag-and-drop editor is fairly intuitive. Canva has a basic plan that is accessible for free.
